About Vision Surgery Consultants
What Types of eye care services does Vision Surgery Consultants offer?
We offer surgical and medical eye care, including laser vision correction (LASIK, iLASIK, and PRK), cataract surgery, lens implants, glaucoma treatments, eyelid surgery, pterygium removal, corneal abrasion treatment, macular degeneration care, cosmetic eye surgery, and more.
Are your surgeons board-certified?
Yes. Our eye surgeons are board-certified ophthalmologists with experience across numerous types of procedures. Dr. Boomer was the first iLASIK provider in Kansas, and our team has performed over 9,000 laser vision correction procedures alone.
How do I know which procedure is right for me?
The best starting point is a consultation with our team. Our team will evaluate your vision, eye health, and goals to recommend the most appropriate treatment. Many evaluations, including refractive evaluations for laser vision correction, are offered free of charge.
Laser Vision Correction Services
What is the difference between LASIK, iLASIK, and PRK?
All three use laser technology to correct vision, but they differ in technique. iLASIK is our most advanced option, using blade-free laser technology customized to your specific eye. Traditional LASIK uses a blade for part of the procedure. PRK is an excellent alternative for patients who are not good LASIK candidates, as it requires no corneal flap.
How do I find out if I’m a candidate for laser vision correction?
Schedule a free refractive evaluation at one of our offices. Most people are candidates, and our team will help you understand the options available during your evaluation.
Cataracts & Lenses
What is cataract surgery, and when is it needed?
Cataract surgery removes the clouded natural lens of the eye and replaces it with a clear artificial lens implant. It’s recommended when cataracts begin to interfere with your daily vision. It’s the most commonly performed surgery in the U.S., and our team uses the latest micro incisional techniques for a safer, faster recovery.
What are premium lens implants?
Premium lens implants are advanced artificial lenses used during cataract surgery to restore vision beyond what a standard lens can offer. Unlike basic lenses, premium versions may allow you to see clearly at multiple distances. As a result, these premium lenses can reduce or erase your dependence on glasses or contacts after surgery.
Can I have cataract surgery if I’ve had LASIK?
Yes, LASIK or other laser vision correction procedures do not disqualify you from cataract surgery. However, our surgery team will need to know about your LASIK history. Previous procedures can shape the cornea, which may impact the calculations we use to select the right implant for your eye.
Can I prevent cataracts from happening?
There is no guaranteed way to prevent cataracts. Most people will develop cataracts to some degree over time, as they are a natural part of aging. However, certain lifestyle habits may help slow their progression and support long-term eye health. Helpful habits include:
- Wearing UV-blocking sunglasses
- Don’t smoke
- Get regular eye exams
- Eat an antioxidant-rich diet.
